Arizona HBPA Update

December 2011

Turf Paradise cancels the race day for the first time this meet due to rain, yet it does not rain in Arizona. We raced Monday on a muddy track but the rain came a little harder by the 9th race and through the night.

The meet is going good and we have been able to keep purses at the current level thus far.

We have had some great Stake races.

Caballos Del Sol Stakes, December 3, won by Danzing Tribal, trained by Robertino Diodoro owned by Stateside Racing, with Stephen Heller up

City of Phoenix Stakes, December 10, won by Got an Itch, trained by Molly Pearson, owned by Just For Fun Farms LLLC with Adolfo Morales up.

The racing card has had full fields lately. We have a few new trainers move on the ground recently.

Thanksgiving dinner, hosted by Arizona HBPA & Turf Paradise served 659; as usual, Turf Paradise Chef and crew presented a great dinner with all the trimmings.

The Christmas Dinner will be Thursday December 22, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Turf Paradise Club House.

Your HBPA is working hard to bring live racing back to Yavapai Downs.President Gary Miller is working with some investors; Tom Metzen Sr has been in contact with some trying to get a buyer to open Yavapai Downs again.

We are also working with our lobbyist to get a bill that Senator Steve Pierce can author for Gaming at the Race Tracks.

Quarter Horses will stay at Turf Paradise until Rillito Park starts this year.Turf Paradise will host the AQRA challenge trials in 2012 two weeks before the official meet opens. This is due to Iowa changing their dates.

Horsemen, remember we have elections coming up this year, so be thinking of someone you may want to nominate to run for the Arizona HBPA Board of Director.

The HBPA still needs your email addresses so you can receive the email blast along with the Horsemenís Journal.
